I took down the Christmas tree today.

Yes, it’s February 23. The tree was still up for Valentine’s Day. It was tough because Chris would put up and take down the tree every year. I kept feeling like if I didn’t take it down then time wouldn’t move forward. I knew it was moving forward but in my mind somewhere I was still waiting for him to do it. Laughing and doing it the methodical way he would….the colored branches (it’s a fake tree of course….ever since that one real tree we had before we had kids. We were finding the pine needles all year in every nook and cranny) all bundled together so we could easily find them in the box for the next year.

I know Christmas is going to be super tough from now on. I’m not sure how we will handle it. People are telling me I need to change up the traditions of it and do something new. Maybe. We’ll see.

My sister, Kathy, came over and helped me take it down. That actually made it much easier. It was a distraction to chat with her while we packed everything up. I wrapped it all up tight in the box like we would very year.

Taking down the stockings from the fireplace was hard too. I actually did that a week or so ago and it choked me up to take them down.

The lights outside on the house are still up. I unplugged them but they are still there. That’s my next task.
